Another NGS method is called pyrosequencing, commercialized by 454 Life Sciences. Contrary to Illumina sequencing, this method does not use reversible chain terminators. The downside is that these satellites are in a sun-synchronous orbit, and will only pass by your location for ~15-minute intervals at the most, and can only be caught at very early or late hours of the day. The other downside is that the NOAA satellites are aging, and will probably be decommissioned in the coming years. And anyway, the images they transmit are not the highest quality.
